The financial media and markets alike have hailed the apparent shift towards pragmatism in both Argentina and Venezuela as a new dawn. But while recent developments are promising – particularly in Argentina – much more still needs to be done to put the economies onto a stable footing. As such, both are likely to suffer a recession this year, while balance of payments crises are not out of the question.
