Credit risks are growing, but banking sector still strong

Latin America’s financial system is still in good shape, especially when compared to that of the developed world. Nevertheless, lending has accelerated throughout the region and default rates, notably in Brazil, have begun to pick-up. Although the large financial buffers in place mean that the banking system is well placed to absorb any losses, the current pace of lending is starting to look undesirable.
