Opinion polls are pointing to a narrow victory for pro-reform candidate Mauricio Macri in Sunday’s presidential election in Argentina and, if he prevails, the outlook for the economy would undoubtedly brighten. But it’s worth bearing in mind that the opinion polls in Argentina don’t have a particularly good track record of predicting election outcomes – and even if Mr. Macri does win, he will have to overcome Congressional hurdles in order to force through his reform programme.
