Signs of (slow) regional recovery, Chile bond yields

Data released this week underscore that Latin America’s economic recovery from the coronavirus crisis will be among the weakest in the world. One consequence is that monetary conditions will have to be kept very loose for a prolonged period. Indeed, we think that Chile’s central bank may have to do more to reverse this week’s climb in local currency sovereign bond yields triggered by a new pension law.
