Data released this week confirming a further rise in Mexican inflation last month were eye-catching, but it looks like Easter effects were partly to blame. Elsewhere, dovish statements accompanying interest rate decisions in Chile and Peru this week support our view that monetary policy will stay loose for longer than most expect. In contrast, we think that Colombian policymakers’ recent dovish comments are complacent.
