The hit to Mexico’s financial markets during the recent rout in global bond markets adds to the reasons to think that Banxico’s easing cycle is done and dusted. Brazilian financial markets were also rocked this week, partly due to President Bolsonaro’s brash decision to sack the CEO of Petrobas. This may be a sign of a broader shift towards more populist policymaking ahead of next year’s general election.
