With fears of a ‘hard landing’ in China receding, the economic outlook for Peru and Chile has brightened a little in recent months. As it happens, both countries appear fairly well placed to deal with the gradual slowdown in Chinese growth that most still expect to see over the next few years. But if the consensus is wrong, and China does experience a more abrupt downturn, the repercussions would be much more serious, and might even trigger a recession in Peru and Chile.
