The further rise in Brazilian inflation last month to a twelve-year high of 9.6% y/y underscores the need for policymakers to keep interest rates high, even if – as they have signalled – the tightening cycle is over. Elsewhere, inflation in Chile increased further above target last month and this is likely to prevent rate cuts from coming onto the agenda in the coming months.
