A decision on whether to go ahead with the sales tax hike scheduled for next April will be announced in coming weeks. If the tax rise is postponed, GDP growth next year would be considerably stronger than is likely on current projections. Given the likelihood of stronger growth we are not convinced that the medium-term fiscal outlook would be substantially worse.
