Don't be fooled by the return of "inflation"

Consumer prices probably rose year-on-year in October for the first time since 2008, but this would not mark the end of deflation in any meaningful sense. Aside from the occasional spike into positive territory due to developments in commodity prices and tax changes, we expect Japanese inflation to remain negative for the foreseeable future.
