The Bank of Japan’s further loosening of monetary policy today left markets underwhelmed. There is still no real sense that the Bank is getting ahead of the curve rather than playing catch up to economic events. Even on the Bank’s new forecasts it will not achieve its goal of 1% core inflation in two years’ time, suggesting we can expect several more policy easing steps in the quarters ahead.
