Japan’s ruling coalition should emerge victorious from the upcoming Lower House elections but “Abenomics” has long since run out of momentum and so there is little prospect of meaningful structural reform. The main economic implication is that the tax hike scheduled for 2019 is likely to go ahead in a form that should create less economic disruption than under previous plans.
