Slighter better trade data still little to cheer

The March data on exports and the overall trade balance were marginally better than the consensus had expected, but the detail is less encouraging. In particular, the improvement in exports probably reflects the recovery in the global economy, which may now be faltering, rather than any significant boost from the weaker yen. It is therefore too early to chalk this down as a “win” for Abenomics.
