Japan shuffles euro reserves as economy slides

Japan’s announcement that it will buy bonds issued by the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) has been heralded by some as further evidence of the international support that might help to prop up the euro-zone. In reality these purchases are practically irrelevant. Meanwhile, the latest data underline our fears that the Japanese economy itself is sliding back into recession.
