Japan registered her first seasonally-adjusted trade deficit in two years in April. Exports not only failed to increase after the initial disruption caused by the earthquake but also fell further, while imports regained the ground they lost in March. It looks increasingly unlikely that Japan will be able to count on the rest of the world to drag her out of recession.
