Economy Watchers Survey & Bank Lending (Feb.)

The continued improvement in the main balances of Japan’s Economy Watchers Survey (EWS) in February is further evidence of a strong and increasingly broad-based recovery. We would pay less attention to the third successive year-on-year decline in bank lending: this is probably no more a sign of renewed economic weakness than the surge a year earlier was then a sign of strength.
