The sharp drop in Indian inflation in July was due in large part to favourable base effects, and is therefore unlikely to have much bearing on upcoming policy decisions. The Reserve Bank has stated that it will be focusing more on the impact of a potentially weak monsoon on local food prices. But even with this in mind, we think that there is scope for one more interest rate cut in this loosening cycle.
