Turn in the US profit cycle looms

US corporate profits have grown significantly in the nearly three years since the end of the last recession. Admittedly, there are structural reasons why the share of profits in corporate output may rise even further over time. But from a purely cyclical standpoint, the profit share is probably now close to peaking. If so, the prognosis for the stock market is poor.
