World trade volumes are now rising almost as sharply as they fell at the end of last year. The structure of trade also appears to have suffered little lasting damage from the financial crisis, although an increase in protectionism remains a threat. World trade should improve further but it will be more of a hard slog from now on and should still take several years to get back to pre-crisis levels.
