First rate hikes may be approaching, but policy to stay loose

The growing likelihood that the first interest rate hikes will come earlier than previously anticipated will probably have far bigger implications for financial markets than for economic prospects. In both the US and UK policy rates are likely to be raised only gradually, regardless of when the first rate hike occurs. Moreover, the ECB and Bank of Japan are still likely to loosen policy further.
