Recovery slowing as peripheral woes deepen

This week has seen worries about the euro-zone’s periphery escalate again, with Ireland in the spotlight. While the gradually emerging details of a permanent “crisis resolution mechanism” have helped a little, it will still be many months before this is finalised. And with the ECB unlikely to save the day with larger peripheral bond purchases, the risk of one or more economies seeking a bail-out has risen.
