This week, Christine Lagarde’s first speech as ECB president and the account of October’s policy meeting suggested that monetary policy will be on autopilot for some time. There seems to be little chance of a meaningful fiscal stimulus either. So, with the latest surveys point to a slowdown in GDP growth in Q4, we expect the economy to remain weak until well into next year.
