Are things really as bad as they look?

Last week’s disappointing data releases begged the question of whether the euro-zone recovery has ground completely to a halt. The second GDP release confirmed that the German economy stagnated in Q4, while the latest business and consumer surveys for the region as a whole have shown a decline in sentiment at the start of this year.
