The latest European Commission survey revealed an encouraging, widespread further improvement in industrial confidence in Emerging Europe in January. But data revealed a far more mixed picture for consumer confidence. Although the comparatively upbeat tone of the Czech and Polish data suggests that the outlook for retail occupier demand might be rather better than implied by our current forecasts, there are good reasons to treat the confidence data with caution.
