Crude stocks fell again last week, as healthy profit margins appear to be driving an upturn in refinery activity. That said, high product prices are also taking their toll on consumer demand, which may force refineries to reduce operating rates in the weeks ahead. In turn, this should help to shore up commercial crude stocks, especially if last week’s rise in domestic output marks the start of a new trend.
