OPEC’s confirmation that it would cut production next year in an attempt to reduce the surplus in the market caused oil prices to surge at the end of November. The surprise victory for Donald Trump in the US Presidential election at the start of the month also gave oil prices a bit of a boost as the market focused on his plans for fiscal stimulus. However, lighter environmental regulations and lower taxes under Trump could also boost supply.
