Coronavirus developments, Turkey and the IMF

Governments in parts of the region have had some success in slowing the spread of the coronavirus, notably in Poland and the Czech Republic where some lockdown measures are now being eased. But there is clear evidence that the authorities in Russia and Turkey are struggling to contain outbreaks and pressure is mounting on President Erdogan to impose a full lockdown. The escalation of the outbreak in Turkey has spooked investors and sparked rumours that the country may turn to the IMF for financial support. This may happen once all other options have been exhausted but sealing a deal would be extremely difficult.
