Russian inflation eased to 3.0% y/y in May and the underlying picture is that inflation has been much weaker than many expected just a few months ago. Price pressures are likely to remain muted which, combined with a sluggish recovery in economic activity, will give the central bank the opportunity to lower interest rates further at its upcoming meetings, including a 50bp reduction on 19th June.
