We believe that the rapidly developing Asian economies will be able to continue growing strongly even as the US slows. Asian economies are closely enough linked to the US such that there will inevitably be significant spillovers through trade. However, with domestic demand continuing to hold up, weak external demand should only knock roughly one percentage point off growth in 2008 and 2009, from a base of around 9% in 2007.
