The prices of industrial metals are likely to remain firm in the first half of the year, although we do not expect large gains. In the second half, most prices should drop back as the global economic recovery disappoints, the appetite for risk fades, and the US dollar recovers some ground. In contrast, gold and platinum group metals should rise further due to a revival of safe haven demand and production cuts respectively.
