The September trade data suggest that foreign demand remains healthy, albeit probably not as strong as the pick-up in export growth suggests. Import growth also strengthened but it was driven by a suspicious surge in imports for processing and re-exports and should not be taken as a sign that domestic demand growth is turning a corner.
