Canada's 1.9% annualised first-quarter GDP growth was somewhat stronger than we had estimated (+1.6%), though it fell short of the 2.5% growth that the Bank of Canada had expected in its April monetary policy report. With inflationary pressures already subdued, this first-quarter data supports our view that the central bank is unlikely to raise its policy interest rate anytime soon.
