GDP growth was surprisingly weak in the first quarter and the slowdown in our New Zealand Activity Proxy (NZAP) in April suggests activity was subdued at the start of the second quarter too. However, we don’t expect this weakness to persist. Strong net migration and accommodative monetary policy should push GDP growth up to around 3.0% later this year.
