ABS House Prices (Q4)

The acceleration in house price inflation in the fourth quarter of last year has undoubtedly continued into the start of this year and will remain a thorn in the side of the Reserve Bank of Australia for a while yet. But the recent rises in mortgage rates and the latest signs that the authorities will soon force banks to further tighten their lending criteria mean the housing market will end this year weaker than it starts it.
