The BCB’s upcoming U-turn

The strength of Brazil’s economy shown in the Q2 GDP figures released this week means the central bank (BCB) now looks set to raise interest rates, having cut rates as recently as May. Still, monetary tightening is likely to be modest, of around 150bp (taking the Selic rate to 12.00%), and will end early next year.
