Unlike much of the world economy in the past year, Covid-19 isn’t the direct cause of the supply disruptions, Capital Economics analyst Gabriella Dickens wrote in a Tuesday note. In fact, the dearth of semiconductors has resulted from a surge in demand for products that increasingly include various kinds of processors such as cars and smartphones.
