A multifamily construction boom during 2015 and 2016 has boosted apartment vacancy rates, and pushed rental growth to a six-year low. But developers are already scaling back multifamily construction, and absorption rates have stabilised. With rental demand being supported by a lack of homes for sale and tight credit conditions, we doubt apartment rental growth will slow much further this year.
