Annual house price growth has peaked

The rise in annual house price growth to a three-year high of 6.1% in August raises the prospect that our forecast for a 6% gain by the end of the year will prove too conservative. But, with credit conditions tight, mortgage applications falling and house price expectations easing back, there is every chance annual house price inflation has now peaked.
