Rising interest rates, declining house price expectations and cuts to the tax advantages of owning a home have all weighed on housing demand since the turn of the year. Of these, the drop in house price expectations appears to be the main driver, followed by higher mortgage rates. While interest rates will fall back over the next couple of years, we doubt house price expectations will recover, and that implies home sales will continue to struggle.
