The first rise in mortgage rates since November last year dampened refinancing demand in September, but applications for home purchase saw a small gain. However that rise merely took home purchase demand back to where it was at the start of the year. With home purchase sentiment subdued, and mortgage rates set for a further gradual rise, applications for purchase will continue to tread water over the next year.
