As expected, housing starts resumed their upward trend in September, confirming that the disruption over the summer caused by the expiry of a tax-break in New York has now worked through. While the number of building permits issued dropped back to a six-month low, the fact that homebuilder confidence is at its highest level in a decade suggests that the upward trend in housing starts is set to continue.
