The inventory of existing homes for sale dropped to a record low in November, which helps explain why home sales declined. We doubt that supply picture will improve over the next year and, coupled with tighter credit conditions, that means low mortgage rates won’t be enough to boost activity. Existing home sales are set to do no more than tread water in 2020.
