Higher mortgage rates and lack of stock hits activity

Mortgage interest rate are rising gradually which, coupled with a lack of inventory, has meant mortgage applications for home purchase resumed their downward trend in October. That implies home sales will struggle to gain momentum over the next few months. Even so, tight market conditions mean house price growth on the Case-Shiller measure exceeded 6% y/y in August, a three-year high.
