There are few signs that the recent tax cuts have boosted the economy’s supply side and, with business investment growth moderating, the prospect of a marked pick-up in productivity growth is fading. Without a productivity miracle to fall back on, the Fed is likely to continue raising rates gradually which, together with the fading fiscal boost, we expect will cause economic growth to slow sharply next year.
