The weaker than expected 0.3% m/m rise in retail sales in October is still broadly consistent with our forecast that consumption growth will slow to 7.5% annualised in the fourth quarter. But the details suggest the new wave of virus infections is starting to weigh on the economy and, with more and more states now imposing restrictions, there is a clear risk of a sharper slowdown.
