The sharp fall in the ISM manufacturing index to 54.1 in December, from 59.3, echoes the deterioration in the other manufacturing surveys and suggests that the slowdown in global growth is starting to take its toll on the US economy. It also provides the first genuine economic reason for the Fed to potentially stop raising interest rates.
