The 0.6% m/m decline in industrial production in January was driven by a 0.9% drop in manufacturing output, suggesting that the US is now succumbing to the industrial downturn already evident across the global economy. With the latest retail sales data suggesting that the domestic services sector is also losing steam, this provides further reason to think that the Fed won’t be raising rates any time soon.
