The modest drop in the Conference Board's measure of consumer confidence to a four-month low of 79.7 in September, from 81.8, reflects a combination of higher interest rates and lower equity prices. That said, since the survey cut-off date, stock markets have rallied and interest rates have dropped sharply in response to Fed's inaction, suggesting that confidence will rebound in October.
