Housing market struggles to gather momentum

Despite an improvement in mortgage approvals, the housing market has struggled to gather any upward momentum. Indeed, with buyer confidence still weak and house prices still high relative to incomes, we expect house price growth to stay below 2% y/y out to 2021. And while mortgage approvals might start to fare a little better next year, we don’t expect to see a rebound in housing market activity anytime soon.
