The latest data suggest that gold demand from the official sector remained subdued in May. However, we expect this to be only temporary as central banks continue to diversify away from the US dollar. Gold’s appeal as a reserve asset also continues to be bolstered by interest rates and bond yields having turned negative in most of Europe and Japan.
